About Miguel

About Miguel

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with 21 years of clinical experience, offering individual psychotherapy and psychoanalysis to adults in both English and Spanish. I maintain a private practice in Ottawa, Ontario.

My areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, isolation, burnout syndrome, low self-esteem, stress, challenging life transitions, communication and relationship problems. I also have extensive experience helping individuals with chronic illnesses to better cope with their health issues, and the emotional process related to the acceptance of the disease, medical treatments, and any other specific concern that may arise.

My psychotherapeutic approach and style are best described as integrative, collaborative, caring, and empathic. My expertise enables me to articulate techniques from different models or approaches to psychotherapy, such as Psychoanalytic, Cognitive-Behavioural (CBT), and Humanistic therapies to address your specific needs and concerns within a none-judgmental and holding environment.

I am passionate about working in therapy with each person by creating a strong relationship within a warm and safe environment to help them gain insights into their functioning and find new ways of seeing themselves. In this way, they will learn how to make better choices in their lives, and how to avoid repetitive problematic patterns, in order to minimize emotional suffering and achive their goals. With compassion and understanding, I also like to work with each individual to help them build on their strengths and discover their true self.

Education

I hold a Master´s Degree in Clinical and Health Psychology (UCM, Spain), and a Licentiate Degree in Psychology (UCV, Venezuela).

I obtained the Canadian equivalency of both academic Degrees (WES Canada, 2012), and the U.S. equivalency of both Degrees as regionally accredited  (WES U.S., 2022).
